Highlights from March 2024 edition of NRSS: ‘Digital Policing and Crime Control in Nigeria’

On March 26, 2024, NISER hosted the general public and relevant stakeholders at the NISER Research Seminar Series, with the theme, ‘Digital Policing and Crime Control in Nigeria’, at the NISER Conference Room and online via Zoom.

Under the moderation of Mr. Bolaji Kolapo, about 200 people participated in the seminar, out of which 173 participated physically and 27 attended virtually. The presentation was titled ‘Digital Policing and Crime Control in Nigeria’. The presentation was taken by Dr. Peter Tomoloju (Research Fellow, Social Policy Department, NISER). It was followed by an interesting discussion session, anchored by the panel chair, Mr. Solomon Arase (Chairman, Police Service Commission), where the discussants made their contributions on the subject matter. The discussants were Dr. Lanre Ikuteyijo (Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) and Louis Chete (Economic and Business Policy Department, NISER, Oyo State. The panel session was accompanied by a Q&A session, in which both online and on-site participants were permitted to contribute to the discussion.

Some of the Special Guests present were CP Adebola Hamzat (Commissioner of Police, Oyo State), AIG Wale Olokode (Assistant Inspector General of Police, and Mr. Babajide Ikubolaje (Representative of the Honorable Minister of Police Affairs).

SIDE EVENT: NISER BOOK FAIR

After the seminar, participants found their way to the NISER Book Fair venue, where NISER books were displayed according to departments at NISER. Archival books from 1970 to 2000 were also on display and were given for free upon purchase of recent NISER publications. Individual Research Projects (IRPs) and Team Research Projects (TRPs) published between 2001 and 2010 were also on display and sold for N1000 flat rate. Recent publications published between 2018 and 2023 were also made available for sale.

In all, about 41 books were sold at the Fair.
