“BE INNOVATIVE, DILIGENT IN SERVING THE NATION.” – NISER D.G. TASKS NEW STAFF

The Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), Professor Antonia Simbine, has charged the newly recruited staff of the Institute to be innovative and diligent in the discharge of their duties. The D.G. gave this charge on Wednesday 3rd June, 2026, while declaring open a 2-day Orientation Course for the newly recruited staff of NISER.
She congratulated the new staff for making it after their excellent performance during the recruitment exercise, which culminated in their employment into the Institute as Research and Non-Research staff. She hinted that thousands of applicants applied for the job, but that the management opted for the best candidates who performed creditably well during their written exams, oral interview and PowerPoint presentation. She tasked them to see their employment as a call to serving the Nation.
 
According to the Director General, NISER occupies a unique place in Nigeria’s political ecosystem because of the Institute’s social and economic research that has assisted the Federal Government to navigate economic challenges which have bedevilled the Nation for decades. She maintained that the orientation course marks the beginning of their professional journey, and wished them a fruitful career progression in the Federal civil service as she officially welcomed them to NISER.

In his Welcome Address, the Director of Administration, Mr. E. Udofia, urged the new intake to commit their intellect, time and character in their services for a better NISER and Nigeria.
He further tasked them to prioritize professionalism in their service delivery, eschewing absenteeism and bad attitude to their superiors, as he welcomed them to the orientation exercise.

The 2-day Orientation Course for the newly employed staff towards keeping them abreast with the norms and ethics of the Federal Civil Service took place at the Institute’s Conference Room on 3rd and 4th of June, 2026, with the management and administrative staff in attendance.
 
In their separate remarks, the Head of Research Management Department, Prof. John Adeoti, Head of Human Capital Policy Department, Prof. Olukemi Okuwa, and Head of Political and Governance Policy Department, Prof Abubakar Oladeji, admonished the new staff to improve their reading culture in order to stay fit for the job, reiterating that NISER is about reading, writing and researching for the development of Nigeria economically.
 
Facilitators during the orientation course presented papers on the evolution of NISER, organizational structure, organizational behavior, sandwich of public service practice, tidbits of financial regulations, career progression, official communication, retirement plan, career management, health matters, security and safety measures.
 
A highpoint of the event was the vote of thanks, delivered by a representative of the newly employed staff, Dr. Friday Uko, who commended the Director General’s proactiveness on the Institute’s development, and for prioritizing the welfare of the new staff.
 
He also thanked the management team and the Department of Administration for adequate coordination of the exercise which made it a success.
